Attleborough
The first colonists arrived in what is now known as Attleboro/Attleborough in 1634. When colonists purchased the land now known as Seekonk, East Providence, Pawtucket, Rehoboth, and a part of Swansea from the Pokanokets in ****, the area to the north was still occupied and controlled by the Pokanokets. With the desire to expand, Captain Thomas Willett signed a deal to purchase that area from the Pokanokets in April of 1661. Named for a town in England, the town was incorporated 60 years after colonists arrived in 1694.
An important part of Daniel Read’s life, Attleborough is where many of Daniel’s relatives resided.
